Guest Designer Christy Saeger!

We are excited to have Christy Saeger as Making Memories' guest designer for today. Christy's mini album will be the inspiration piece for the day.

 

Hello!  My name is Christy and I couldn't be more excited to be here blogging today for Making Memories, thank you for welcoming me!  One of my favorite projects to create is mini albums, you might say I'm in love with these wonderful little things.  I find it a great way to document different time frames in my children's lives or small events with too many photos to document on a single layout.  Gathering various patterned papers from past and present Making Memories collections I put together a variety of items girly enough to show off the sassy attitude of my baby girl, we like to call her our little diva!  Even though the products I used came from various collections they went together wonderfully along with the many embellishments from Making Memories from my endless stash!  Enjoy!

Guest Designer Diana Fisher

Today Diana Fisher is Making Memories’ Guest Designer.  Diana created a handmade rosette and she explains how she did that.

  

We all have them—those extra strip of paper we trim off to make sure we have that perfect page. You could save them for later, or you can use them right then and there to make matching embellishments for your scrapbook page.

All you need is:
-A scoring board
-A hot glue gun or other fabulous adhesive
-A button or embellishment for the top
-A circle-shaped scrap for the base of the flower



Once you’ve assembled your materials, score the scrap of paper using the score board. By adjusting the wide and height of your scrap you can create a variety of different rosettes. Play around with skinny and thicker scraps to see which, affect you like best.

Apply hot glue to the center of the circle-shaped scrap.

Fold your accordion-folded scored paper so the ends meet and place on top of the hot glue on the circle paper.

Hold down until the glue dries enough for you to let go.

Drop a small bit of glue on the top of your rosette and then adhere your button or embellishment.

 

Allow it to dry and then place on your page! The final effect creates great depth and variety to your page.

Guest Designer June Goh

Today June Goh is Making Memories' Guest Designer. June created her own embellishments for this layout. Check out her tutorial below.

I really love this Making Memories' paper from the Paper Reverie collection, but I could not find a suitable embellishment in my stash to highlight the page. In the end I decide to make my own flower in the shade that matched my layout.

All you need are a few basic items:

- crepe paper (in any color you require)

- circle punch (or you can just trace the base of an small circle container)

- card stock

- glue (double sided tape or tape glue)

1.  Punch or cut out a circle of cardstock of your desired side. I used both a 1" and 1.5" circle for the flowers in my layout. Apply glue all over one side of the circle.

2. Give the end of your crepe paper a little twist and stick onto the middle of the circle.

3. Keep twisting the crepe paper and stick the crepe paper onto the cardstock in a circular pattern.

4. Keep going until you reach the edge of the circle.

5. Tape the lose end of the crepe paper to the back of the circle and cut of the excess.

Now you have the perfect colored crepe paper flower for your layout.

 

 

Guest Designer Amy Bender

Today we have Amy Bender as Making Memories’ guest designer.

 

To create this flower card, Amy used her Slice and Vintage Findings Design Card with the Vintage Findings 8x8 pattern paper pad. 

 

1. Cut eight pieces of a three petal flower.

2. Gradually curl the ends of the petals and add glitter glue.

3. Adhere flowers together with Glue-Dots and slightly overlap.

4. When the flower is complete, add a half-pearl to the center to make it look like a vintage daisy brooch.

Guest Designer Marcy Penner

Today Marcy Penner is Making Memories' guest designer. If you think her layout is beautiful, check out her website for more inspiration. Marcy explains how she created this little wonder.

I have a huge problem hoarding the Making Memories blossoms and the Vintage Findings!  So what better excuse to use them than now (I'm so happy to be here!)

I've been saving this photo for a little while now.  Every Spring our creek in the back of our property floods.  Just a bit... not enough to be scary.  And every Spring we trek out that and check out the water.

I dug through my stash and found papers and embellishments in yellows, blues and green.
I started by layering the papers (love love love those noteworthy papers) and then adding embellishments.  Just little bits here and there until I'm happy with it.  I like a little layering but I love my white space too.  It's a fine line!

I also really like curling up bits of my papers to add dimension.

Guest Designer Michelle Unruh

Help us welcome Michelle Unruh to the Making Memories’ blog as a guest designer. Michelle’s inspiration for this layout came from Blueprints sketch, which was perfect for her photo of her little guy. Michelle explains how she created this layout.

I went online and found a star that I could print on copy paper and use as a template. The title was cut with My Slice and the Zootopia design card. I thought that the layered lion head made a perfect replacement for the "O". After I cut the letters in my title, I used the shadow feature to back the letter with orange cardstock. I used brown ink to edge the letter and the lion head to add extra dimension.

Supplies:

Label Die

To Make Box:

Measure sides and top of box.

Cut Various DP to cover Box and adhere.

Add score Tape around box and add Green Rose ribbon.

 

Top Of Box:

Diecut Label die and Dp with same label die.

Adhere Dp to Label Die.

Punch Out perforated Label Block and add  Sentiment Sticker.

Add Brads to both sides of Label Die and Adhere to top of Box.

 

You Are My Sunshine Card:

Make card from cardstock.

Add Green Dp along bottom of card for grass.

Add rubon add gem to center of little flower.

Pierce holes for Butterfly.

Sew Butterfly Die Cuts together and adhere to card.

Round Corners Of card.

 

Dream A Little Dream Card:

Make card from cardstock.

Cut layer and adhere DP to card Base.

Cut sentiment Block from Dp and mat with Green Dp sewing along the edges and Adhere to card Base.

Tie a Bow around card base.

Cut three rose lengths fro rose ribbon and form into a flower and adhere brad to center of flower.

Adhere flower to bow.

 

Spring Has Sprung Card:

Make Card from cardstock.

Layer a couple pieces of Dp and then sew along edges.

Punch out label frame from Dp and adhere sentiment sticker to the center and adhere to card base.

Layer butterfly diecuts sewing down the middle of butterfly and adhere to card.

 

Spring Is in the Air Card:

Make card from cardstock.

Adhere Dp to cardbase.

Cut and adhere specialty circle Dp to card.

Cut sentiment  from Dp and adhere to card.

Add Brad.

Cut and Adhere Green rose ribbon along top of card.

Guest Designer Mandy Koeppen

Today we are excited to have Mandy Koeppen as Making Memories’ guest designer. Mandy created lots of different projects with Making Memories' Tie the Knot collection, which I'm so happy to share.

When I first got the Tie the Knot items I didn’t know what I was going to do with them because we only have a few photos from our big day. As I was flipping through the products it hit me use them with the Father Daughter Dance photos. After that the layout I created came together really quick. I blew the black and white photo of my husband and daughter up to 8x10 then trimmed it down one I had it in the position I wanted it. I love using oversized photos to make sure the photo remains the main focus of the layout. I used the Tie the Knot Tulle flowers packaging for the pattern paper at the bottom of the page. I wanted to give a little added pop so I punched out the pinked circles out of the same packaging then added pop dots and the Making Memories metal flowers. I also used Tie the Knot journaling book, borders, and mixed flowers on this page. I raided my stash for the Making Memories rub-on title, the numeral rub-ons, and the woven letter K.

After I was done with the layout I wanted to create something wedding related so I pushed a few ideas around a couple ideas didn’t work but these 2 cards did.

The cake card was so easy to make. I cut 2 pieces of the Tie the Knot paper that I wanted to use then I rounded the top corners. I layered the pieces and adhered them to the folded side of the card. I had the Tie the Knot journaling page cut out for another project and didn’t use it and to me it looks like a fancy cake top so that’s what it turned into. I had the 2 little ring embellishments and congratulations sticker in my stash. After everything is adhered down cut around the cake til you meet the folded side of the card on the bottom tier of the cake make sure you STOP cutting here otherwise you won’t have a card when your done. I added a tulle ribbon and the Tie the Knot gems to finish the card.

Card #2 was a quick throw together of scraps. The 2 journal pages are cut down, layered, and adhered to the card. I added a tag dangling from twine to the top. On the tag is a vintage doily flower, a Tie the Knot brad, and a flower that I made by scrunching up paper and shaping it into a flower. A few pearls and the card is finished.

Last and certainly not least when my girls saw the tulle flowers they wanted them as headbands and barrettes. That is just what I wanted to use them for too. They are really easy to make too! This one used a clip barrette, adhesive, and the tulle flower. Easy peasy and oh so cute!

 

Making Memories Guest Designer Samantha Sibbett

This adorable spring banner was created by Making Memories' guest designer Samantha Sibbett. This is a perfect project for spring as the weather starts to warm (or at least we can cross our fingers that it warms up).

Nothing says Spring is HERE like a big happy banner to hang in your garden!  My girls and I love making easy seasonal banners.  With the help of my Slice, making this banner was a "spring breeze".  After we cut out a few dozen floral shapes, I layered them and attached a brad.  I let my girls glue them to the bunnies' necks.  We punched holes and strung them on with a beautiful ribbon.  I also used the Slice to cut out the alphas, love that machine!  

We can't decide if we like it better on our garden patio or inside on the across the kitchen window.

Guest Designer Jenni Hufford

Jenni Hufford is today’s Making Memories’ guest blog designer. Jenni created this layout about her daughter. She explains how she created it.

In order to create this layout, I used Making Memories Vintage Findings Home Kit, items from the Paper Reverie collection, and the pink alphabet stickers from the Dilly Dally Collection.  I love how items from three separate lines when so well together.   

I love the fact that there are so many products available in the Vintage Findings Kit. I like to layer papers and product on my layouts- so the Vintage Findings Kit was a fabulous option.

I started by choosing papers and embellishments that would pull out the blues, pinks, and greens in the photos.  Next, I overlapped the pattern papers in order to create a foundation for my photos.  You will notice to the left of my photos there is a "visual line" that pulls all the papers together.  Even though I overlapped that line with the blue tags, the red stamp makes it appear as the line continues.    I used the yarn from the tag, a the Paper Reverie Silver Floret to soften the overall design. I loved the rhinestone in the center of the floret, however, wanted a larger center element. I decided to replace the rhinestone with a silver Vintage Finding Argent Button.
