Today we wanted to feature some layouts that Katie sent our way. She is an Australian fan of Making Memories. She used Making Memories' Just Chillin' Collection. She simply layered various paper to create her background.

Kids Can Scrap

I am very excited to share this post with you today. I got an email from Kids Can Scrap a few weeks ago. This mother LOVES to scrapbook and her nine-year old daughter loves to do the same thing along side her. When the mother participates in an online scrapbooking challenge, the daughter joins in the fun.

They created a website called Kids Can Scrap last fall as a way to encourage kids to participate in scrapbooking and scrapbooking challenges. This month they created a challenge based on Making Memories' Just Chillin' Collection.

Poster Profile: Tan Yin Wen

Scrapbooking extends around the entire world and today we have a project that comes to us all the way from Singapore.  Tan Yin Wen created this beautiful poster profile using products from the Making Memories Just Chillin’ line.

Here are Tan Yin Wen’s instructions:

1)     Using the sewing machine, I first created an irregular square stitched frame in the middle of the page where I wanted my photo and embellishments to be. I did the sewing twice to show the irregularity and to have the lines overlapping.  This also thickened the frame slightly. I added zig zag stitches to one small portion of the square frame and a tiny bowed ribbon to add dimension.

2)     I matted the photo with Making Memories Just Chillin’ Girl paper, which I gave a torn look on one side, and layered above it a page from one of the Making Memories Just Chillin’ spiral journaling books.

3)     As the photo had a wide empty side to its right, it was a great place to place the title of the layout. The Just Chillin Canvas Alphas were just right for the page with the matching color tones.

4)     I finished off by framing the photo with Making Memories Just Chillin’ Girl chipboards, die cuts, rub-ons and other embellishments.

Even though it’s a guy layout, I wanted to have the mix of the vibrant colors from Just Chillin’ Girl paper and products. I love how versatile both the girl & boy series are.

Guest Designer Christy Harris

Today we welcome guest designer Christy Harris to the Making Memories blog.  Christy created this “Sisters” layout by combining elements of the Making Memories Sabrina collection with Animal Crackers and the Slice Cordless Design Cutter.

 
She explained what she did:

1. I used theSlice Cordless Design Cutter and the Basics 1 card to cut the scalloped circles and then used the grommet tool to punch and set a silver grommet in the center of the paper flower and one of the scalloped circles to show the black through the middle.  I wanted a different looking center than the usual button or brad.
2. The ribbon slide is cut with the Slice Cordless Design Cutter and the Noteworthy design card and I stamped “Sisters” with the Making Memories clear stamps then used the pink Animal Crackers velvet trims.
3. I kept everything close to the center to show off the decorative edge of the designer paper from the Sabrina collection.
4. I finished off with pieces of a decorative border strip, flowers and looking glass stickers all from the Sabrina collection, using the grommet and the two looking glass stickers to create a visual triangle of circles and keeping the focus on the pictures of my daughters with minimal embellishments.

Guest Designer Heidi Mansion

Today we are excited to have Heidi Mansion as Making Memories' guest designer. Heidi made this adorable craft project using Making Memories Chloe's Closet collection. Follow these instructions to create your own bird house.

• Prep the birdhouse by sanding rough edges until smooth This will give you a nice smooth painting surface.
• Apply a medium coat of acrylic paint to all sides of the birdhouse and let dry completely. 

  

Sides

• Measure and Cut desired Chloe’s Closet Papers to fit two side panels.  Ink the edges with Chalk Ink
• Adhere cut and inked paper pieces to each side with glue.  Once paper is adhered to birdhouse, ink the edges again to create a weathered look on birdhouse.  Accent with gems.

Roof

• Measure and Cut desired papers to fit the six roof top shingles (three on each side). 
• Distress the long sides (horizontal) of the each of the roof pieces and ink the edges.
• Adhere inked paper shingle pieces to the roof with glue.
• Adhere selected buttons to front, side and back edges of the birdhouse using Glue Dots.
• Apply chalk ink around bottom edge of birdhouse to give a distressed look.  Attach yellow flower trim using Glue Dots to bottom edge.

Front

• Apply accents to the birdhouse opening using punched branch, chalk ink and gel pen.
• Adhere stitched flower and clear creation bird (bird)
• Adhere gem to the tip of the perch

Back

• Position and Attach floral clear creation accent to back of birdhouse.
• Position and Attach yellow flower trim using Glue Dots across the back.
• Position and Attach stacked large button accented with punched branch using Glue Dots 
• Apply accents around button using white gel pen.

Top

• Tie ribbon bow to hanger at the top.

Making Memories: Chloe's Closet collection, distressing kit
Other: Glue dots, Aleene's fast grab tacky glue, paint, white pen

 

 

Spring Cards

Today we asked Shanna to share some cards she created with Making Memories' Chloe's Closet. This is what she said:

I like to round up the specific products I plan to use when creating my card sets in order to keep them coordinating.  I don't like to make sets of identical cards.  What fun is that right?   But I DO like them to match each other.  With this specific set I chose these products to work with from the Chloe's Closet line:  (all of which I instantly fell in love with as soon as I saw them!)

And of course a nice selection of Making Memories "Thank You" rub-ons.

I wanted to create the cards out of kraft paper in order to match the kraft colored matching gift bag.  Once I've gathered up the products I want to use then that's what I stick with while creating.  Limiting myself this way forces me to get creative from one card to the next as far as the design of each card goes.  Once you start a set like this you'd be surprised how quickly you've created several cards without even stressing over it.  If I start struggling with the design of the card then I reach for my favorite card sketches and I'm done in no time at all.  This makes it easy when I already have the product & supplies in front of me. 

Guest Designer Wendy Kwok

We are excited to have Wendy Kwok as today's guest designer.

Wendy combined several Making Memories products in this fun layout: Love Notes papers, shimmer brads, Paperie Rouge flocked dots paper, Love Notes word fetti and tiny alphas. 
During this Valentine’s, we can scrap about the things we love--and many times we are just crazy over our possessions or obsessions, right? This is the time to scrap it!

Wendy shared some tips to help us create this layout.

 
Tips:
1) Cover some chipboard with word stickers. This gives a fun visual interest on your layout.
2) Are you stumped when you see so many words on a piece of pattern paper?  I found a way to use them. Cut up the words you like and frame them up with chipboard to bring out your paper. You can highlight whatever words suit your theme like I did with this Loves Notes Words paper.
3) Mix and match old and new stuff.  I combined the new Love Notes tiny alphas with the black tiny alphas to make the title.
4) Use Making Memories paints.

Poster Profile – Christine Jensen

During the past few months we have focused on projects for the holidays. We have not been doing a lot of poster profiles as a result. We get requests for that all the time, so we thought we would start 2009 off by profiling Christine Jensen.

Christine created this project to share on our blog.

  

Christine loves Making Memories Noteworthy embellishment jars. She used these jars to create this adorable and simple project. The idea behind this jar is to take a little time for herself throughout the year. Filling the jar are little strips of paper with things that take no more than nine minutes to do, but will give her some fun, time to herself. When she feels like she needs some time to herself, she can choose something from the jar.

 

To create this project, follow the following steps:

1. Paint the jar lid.
2. Embellish the top of the lid. Use the Slice to create your circle.
3. Add blossoms, title, tag, etc.

For the strips of paper inside, print on the white side of Making Memories patterned paper and then curl.

Here are some ideas for your nine minute me time:
-Read a magazine article
-Post to your blog
-Write about a childhood memory
-Plan your dream vacation
-Run a mile

That's it, super simple and quick, and a fun way to make time for yourself throughout the year!

Guest Designer Michele Beck

Today we are excited to feature Michele Beck as our guest designer.

Michele loves Making Memories product, but her favorite line is Noteworthy because of its “feminine and brilliant colors and chipboard.” She decided to use her favorite products for this aptly named layout, “Perfect.”

1 - First, she painted the background with Making Memories' Scrapbook Colors paint in white by drawing some circles to make clouds.

2 - Next she layered two pieces of Making Memories' Noteworthy paper, a photo and  a journaling paper (cut to make a circle) for the background.

3 - She distressed the edge of each paper along with the background.

4 - To make trees, Michele punched out flowers and little circles from the Making Memories' Noteworthy paper.

5 - Next, she layered Making Memories' Noteworthy chipboard, die-cuts, and brads on one of the trunks and stapled Making Memories Noteworthy trims under the photo.

6 - She added two Noteworthy pebbles brads on each side of the title and wrote her journaling on the clouds.

7 - Finally, she tied a Making Memories' Noteworthy trim on the edge of my page and added some shimmer to the trees and clouds.
