Guest Designer: Erin Bassett

Hi everyone, this is Erin Bassett happily jumping in as a guest designer and blogger today. 

I love the Sarah Jane line is so perfect for little girls! I just had to use it to create a scrapbook page for my new little niece!

I love all the Instagram photos we are all taking of her and so I had them printed out and then used some twine to create a close line for each row of photos.  I just stapled the photos right onto the twine!

I love the sticker banner, and had to use that for my title. By popping it (and other embellishments and photos) up with foam adhesive it really gives the page some dimension, even under the glass of the frame I ended up putting it in.

 

Here's a close up of how I used some of the die-cuts and pennants to make this cluster.  I think adding the trim around the die-cut helps give the layout a baby soft feel.

 

And here's how it looks in the frame! A great gift to give!!

 

I also had some left over supplies and so I whipped up a card. I pieced together scraps for the cards and then sewed them together. I also layered up a bunch of the pennants to make a star like flower shape to add to the front of the card.

 

For the paper that "wish" is on, I just die-cut it out from some of the product packaging.  I can't let a good pattern go to waste!  

 

Once again I popped up some of the layers to create dimension, and now it's good to go!

Slice Fabrique InvisiCut Project - Flower Headband

I have loved the trend of the flower headbands since the moment I laid eyes on them.  Is there anything better then creating your own accessories... I say no!  Slice Fabrique InvisiCut is a revloutionary product that will change your world when cutting fabric!  Remember how it is almost impossible to cut lace and silk with a machine?  Well InvisiCut is the answer to cutting all delicate fabrics that you don't want to back with fusible web.  

You can create beautiful accessories by using the InvisiCut and your Slice Fabrique.  

Supplies

Instructions

Step 1 - spray your mat with Slice Spray Adhesive, lay down fabric, peel off the top of the InvisiCut and lay the sticky side down on the fabric

Step 2 - make the necessary cuts to create the flower [usually 5 cuts]

Step 3 - peel the clear InvisiCut off of the fabric

Step 4 - Fold the flower in half and then in half again

Step 5 - make a couple of stitches through the bottom folded part and sew to a felt base [note all of this can be done with hot glue if you aren't into sewing]

Step 6 - continue steps 3 to 5 with the other 5 flowers you cut

These are so fun to make and really easy!  You can customize the flower to look exactly like you want and in the perfect color.  There are many uses for these - headbands, necklaces, shirts, decor, etc!

Modern Millinery Mini Album Project

Jayme Shepherd, Creative Director for Making Memories, designed some amazing projects using Modern Millinery.  Today we want to show you a goregous mini album project that is full of eye candy!

1. Create a mini album out of 12" x 12" papers - fold them in half and glue in the pages

2. Embellish the album with trims, flowers, cabochons, die-cuts and the perfect photos

 

This is such an easy way to create a beautiful timeless piece that your family can treasure forever!  Wouldn't this make a perfect gift!

 

 

Modern Millinery Project Inspiration

Today I want to share with you a beautiful Modern Millinery project that we created for the show. This program is so fun to craft with and the ideas/uses are endless!  I'm going to show you a goregous layout featuring the new "textile papers" from Modern Millinery.  These are sooooooo fun to use.

1. Use Making Memories new fabric paper "french lace" as the base of your layout.  These papers are goregous and add so much texture and design to the layout!  

2. Create a photo frame with some of the modern millinery double-sided papers to really make your photo "pop" on the page.

3. Make a mini pennant banner with some of the modern millinery double-sided papers for a fun "hand-made" embellishment.  

4. Add die-cuts and cabochons to finish off the layout!

Shelley May here on the Making Memories blog - honored to be featured in December!!! I have been a fan of Making Memories products since I first started scrapbooking back in 2005. I love the coordinating items that come out with every line and this newest Christmas line from Making Memories called TWINKLE is no disappointment! Each package of embellishments has so many little bits and pieces to choose from - you really are getting a great deal of product for your dollar. 
 

When I was approached for a feature, I wanted to take a thrifty approach for my project, as this holiday season is going to be a very creative one for my family. We are down to one income and looking for every way possible we can be thrifty, creative, and maybe even recycle as much as possible! With all of the food containers I toss into the recycle bin each week - I got an idea... what if I use some of them for packaging for little homemade goodies at Christmastime? Sweets, cookies, all different little bits of goodness? So I began setting the recyclables aside... in my studio! I had a nice little stockpile and decided to use this for this project! For this project I used a Laughing Cow Cheese container, a frosting container, and a paper bag that our apples came in (hello cute little new and upcycled gift bag!!!)

I then got to work with my Twinkle line of Making Memories products. These items went together so quickly and simply. I made all three items in under an hour! First up is the Laughing Cow container - turned into an ornament! I covered the top and bottom with paper, inked the edges, used ribbon for the loop, and used embellishments to - well - embellish. And of course, used pop dots for dimension. I love dimension on all my projects! And are you kidding me with this cuteness? I just love it if I do say so myself!

 

Next, is just a frosting container. I simply wrapped it with paper, then another layer, some ribbon, "pop-dotted" (yes, I made a verb out of pop-dot) a sentiment embellishment sticker, covered the lid with paper, and added some buttons, and it's ready to be filled with cookies or candies and given to a special someone, because as it says, It's better to give than to receive!

Last, is my easy as Apple Pie Gift bag - made from an Apple Bag! Yep - that's right! The bag my apples came in.. I loved! I kept it, added a square of paper, some ribbon, a sentiment sticker, and some die cut embellishments, "pop-dotted", and a tag, "To: Mommy, From: Santa", and it's done! YES! You can do it too... it's THAT easy!

I hope you are finding many ways to recycle and be creative this holiday season! I encourage you to look around and pay attention to all the things you throw away or recycle. Halloween Wreath

This beautiful Halloween wreath was created by Making Memories' designer Leah Fung. This is a fun project to help you jump into the spooky season.

A good friend of mine is getting married very soon and I won't be able to attend his wedding due to work commitment.  I wanted to create a small memento that would be meaningful to him and special to her.  As I love altering items, this is when  I gave a new lease of life to a simple diskette box.  I made a mini album to fit the box, with space in the box to spare for them to keep additional notes or photos.

For this project, I hunted down all the remainder stock of Je T'adore in Singapore and used a total of three 12x12 papers from the Je T'adore paper - Tres Jolie Collage , French Dictionary and Floral Ledger and the brads and accoutrement pack.  Je T'adore is such a gorgeous collection.  The box was covered with French Dictionary trellis pattern paper on the sides,  with Tres Jolie paper in front.  The mini's pages are made from a single sheet of Floral Ledger paper and the covers from Tres Jolie paper.

In any project, a slight alteration can make a big difference in the end results.  I will share a few from this project over here.



1) The box is upcycled from an old diskette box, covered in double sided patterned paper. As the box is transclucent, you can see the pattern inside and the other pattern outside.

2) This pair of kissing swallows are from the Je T'adore accoutrement pack. They are originally light pale pink and I covered them in a thin layer of bronze crackle paint.  After the crackle dried, it broke nicely to show the pale pink under the bronze, giving it a bit of the vintage look.




3) Don't be afraid to mix and match. I have here 3 types of roses - a brad, a resin flatback and a paper rose.  See how well they go together?

4) Use words on patterened paper as highlights by boxing them or matting them.  This was from a phrase in the French Dictionary paper.

5) Give dimension to your fussy paper cuttings by painting them with a layer of glitter glue and distressing and curling the edges of the cut.
