Paper Reverie Home Decor

Making Memories’ Paper Reverie collection ships next month! I love this collection for scrapbook layouts, home décor, hair accessories, etc., etc., etc.,

Today I wanted to show you a wall hanging that I created for my office. It’s pretty to display and it allows me to add photos of the ones I love.

To create this you will need to first paint a canvas. Pick a color that matches the color pallet that you are using. Next, adhere a piece of patterned paper over the canvas. Embellish with buttons, baubles, gems, and a floret.

Chunky Necklace

The forecast today calls for rain. I guess it's inevitable that the seasons are about to change. Today I turned in my flip flops for some boots. Since fall is on my brain, I thought I would share a beautiful fall necklace that was created using Vintage Groove. It's the perfect necklace for your fall attire.

Embroidery Hoop Decor

Hi there! Ever since I saw the embroidery hoop wall hangings floating around blog land, it’s been on my list of projects that I wanted to create! They are super cute and make a fun addition to any room in your house! I have a large empty wall right inside my front door that was the perfect space. I also made mine into bulletin boards so I could hang fun things on them -- pictures, cards, announcements and other cute little paper embellishments.

To decorate some of the hoops I used a lot of little pieces from my favorite Making Memories line – Vintage Findings. Then I also cut out some shapes with my Slice and the new Hands Free Attachment (which is the BEST by the way!). Here’s a list of the shapes and which design cards I used: H – Spring Design Card, Butterflies – Just Chillin’ Teen and Vintage Findings, Bird – Findings, Banner – Findings, Labels – Findings

Guest Designer Katrina Hunt

Today Katrina Hunt is Making Memories' guest designer.

I am so excited to be creating for the Making Memories Blog and sharing my projects with everyone. I hope you enjoy what I have created with Making Memoreis' Just Chillin’ Girl Collection and my Slice, which I absolutely LOVE!. The little machine packs a powerful punch!  

See that cloud at the top in the corner and then the butterfly at the bottom. Those were created with the Slice from Shrinky Dink film!! How cool is that?! I cut both images at 4 inches and then stamped on the film before shrinking with solvent ink. I did discover that the clear film cuts easier than the bright white. And I did cut the image a couple of times before moving my machine, just to make sure the cut went completely thru since the film is slightly thicker.

When I was making the flowers I decided that I wanted some flowers to look like those rose type flowers that are all the rage right now….so I went to work trying to figure out how to do them! I first cut from the Basics 1 design card two of the flowers that have the open center, glued them back to back (I had cut single sided paper), cut one side (between the petals) completely to the center and started rolling it on itself, let up a little tension and glued at the end. Then I decided I wanted to play with some fabric, since I found some that matched the papers almost perfectly! I used the Slice fusible web to attach to my fabric and then the Slice spray adhesive to tack it to my Slice Hands Free mat before cutting. Remember that you cut with the fabric face down on the mat. I cut out two striped flowers and did the same as above. I added some memory thread to the middle for some detail. The other flower was cut out twice from the Wedding card and sizes from 1-3 inches. I then used fabric stiffener to make it hold it’s shape and then put the paper flower in the middle of this.

Then my creative mojo was flowing, so I created an easel card using the Home Sweet Home design card. If you do a search on the internet for directions, easel cards are really easy to create. And they look so pretty sitting around!

Je t'Adore Trims

Making Memories' Je t'Adore trims are my FAVORITE. I love them for scrapbooking, but I also love them for a hundred other things that you can use them for. I used these flower trims to embellish a t-shirt. This is an inexpensive way to give your old clothes a new twist.

Home Decor Challenge from Laura Vegas

Hey everyone, it's Laura Vegas here with a design challenge for you. I'm loving the Making Memories Vintage Groove jewelry collection by Jill Swartz. I have had such fun creating lots of cute and unique pieces to wear over the last few months. But the jewelry pieces aren't just for jewelry making. How about working some of those pieces into your home decor projects, or even your scrapbook layouts.
 

 
I am very well known for having a lot of picture frames displayed around my house. But here's my little secret. A lot of those frames are hanging on the wall, or propped up on a shelf, with nothing in them. I usually will get a new frame, and then it will takes me months before I get around to filling it up with a photo. I bought this frame shown above about a year ago, and it has been on the shelf above my television ever since, with nothing in it.
 

 

I created this frame in about 15 minutes. I simply choose 3 of the Vintage Groove charms, and some coordinating ribbon. I added a 4x6 piece of pattern paper in each spot on the frame, and then added the charm, hung from the ribbon. I used glue dots to hold everything in place.

So my challenge to you is to look at your Vintage Groove jewelry pieces in a whole new way. Think of a fun way you can add them to your home decor, whether it's a frame, a vase, or even a potted plant. And be sure to share your creations with us!
