Design Challenge by Wilna

Today's Designer Challenge comes from Wilna. Wilna used Making Memories' new Flutter collection and the Slice.

 

Working with the Slice is always fun. I feel like a kid playing! I made this page with 90% of the embellishments cut from the Slice. I used the following design cards: think pink, basic elements and vintage findings. 

Layering all the elements that you cut out created lots of textures that makes one just want to touch it! My challenge to you is make some pages where you use your Slice to create all your embellishments! Link your page in the comments and we all cant wait to see what you come up with.

Photo Swap with Laura Vegas and Wendy Bretz

As much as I'm sure we all love to scrap our own children and our own family, sometimes it can be a nice change to have a fresh face staring up at us from our scrapbook page. Swapping photos with a friend can be fun, as our designers Wendy Bretz and Laura Vegas found out. Both have very different styles, and yet have a lot of the same likes when it comes to choosing products and colors. Wendy and Laura both really love each other's style, but admit that they just can't achieve the same look on their own pages. So it was also a great opportunity to see their photos on a layout that is so different from what they normally do on their own. We challenged them both to use the new Making Memories Flutter Collection and the Slice, and here is what they came up with.

Designer Inspiration by Keisha

Inspiration can be found everyday and everywhere you look. The trick to finding it is opening your eyes. For example, when I am doing my day-to-day stuff, I try to notice details. When I am at the grocery store, I pay attention to the colors and fonts on packaging. I also look at patterns and textures. All of these little pieces can strike an inspirational cord for me.

I got these pillows for my daughter from Pottery Barn Teen. I love the the flowers on these pillows made from the same material and color. I love using tone on tone colors so I thought I would incorporate that idea on a scrapbook page. 

I used Making Memories Love Struck collection, the Noteworthy Blossom and Button box, and the Slice (Basics 2 and Mix & Mingle Design Cards) on this project.

Take a look around your own home today. You will be surprised how many everyday items can inspire inspiration.

Guest Designer Lori Shrout

Today's guest designer is Lori Shrout.  Lori created this layout using the Slice. Lori explains how she created this layout below.

I wanted to create something very special for this old photo of my mother and her sister.  They were so young, free, and beautiful in this moment.  

I used the Slice, the Basics 3, Spring and Noteworthy Design Cards.

I started with the Basics 3 Design Card. I cut several long swirls and placed them around the edge to form the vines. Next, I used the Spring Design Card to create the bird and the tiny butterfly.  The bird comes to life with a tiny pearl for an eye.  Next, I used the Noteworthy Design Card to create a photo mat, even though the photo is larger than 4". I cut three of the bracketed rectangles at 4". I then cut the long edges off so I ended up with six long bracketed edges. I layered these under the photo to create a mat. 

To finish this project, I  used the Mistletoe and Spring Design Card to mix the letters to spell "sisters."

Additionally, here is some eye candy for today. This layout was created by Wendy Anderson.
Wendy used the Slice and the embossing tips to emboss on regular patterned paper. She used the Basic Shapes 2 Design Card to emboss a 3" and 4" flower on the backside of her paper. She then used a sanding block to sand the raised areas of the embossed shape.

Even though I look out my window and see nothing but whiteness all around, I know it's just a matter of time until the snow will melt, the grass will get progressively greener, the flowers will blossom, and spring will be surrounding me.  I love the beautiful colors of spring - the greens, pinks, oranges, and blues.  Unfortunately, I've neglected to use these "feminine" colors on pages with my three boys.  I'm not sure why, other than the fact that when Josh sees flowers or butterflies on a page with his photo it doesn't make him smile.  I think I've found the solution with this line though - there are plenty of oranges, greens, and blues to offset the more feminine shades.  I pulled out these spring photos of my boys - not super flowery or anything, but still "spring" enough that I couldn't wait to use the papers from the Making Memories Flutter collection.  I even got brave enough to Slice a few butterflies and a tree branch to add along with a few felt flower accents!

 

Now I want to challenge YOU to use the colors of spring on a layout...and if you can use the Making Memories Flutter collection on a page with boys you get extra credit! :o)
