Today we are happy to have Caryl Balsomo as the guest designer. Caryl used her Slice to create some spring decor. She will explain how to create this beautiful project.
I started the project by wrapping a lavender tulle around the wreath. I decided to use tulle to capture the lightness of Spring. Then, I cut flowers and butterflies of various sizes & designs from the Slice Basic 2 design card. I layered the flowers and added a button at the center. I then glued it on the tulle that goes around the wreath covering the outer part, thus to emphasize the tulle I made a bow on two opposite sides using a light pink tulle.
For the butterflies, some are stacked in graduated layers with gem/rhinestones at the center, others are just single layers and there are some that have tulle at the center. For this I made 2 parallel horizontal cuts at the center of the die cut, glued the tule between the cuts and looped a ribbon through tying it at the front.
For the drop strings on the inside of the wreath, I used Pom ribbon and Jute string and just followed the path of the tulle. I then glued the flowers+butterflies on the ribbon/string. To finish off, I glued a ribbon-tied tule on the reverse side. It also gives it a 3-D effect (ribbon-tied tule, die-cut, string, ribbon-tied tule). I have to keep in mind that the project can be seen from all angles so the back of the die-cuts has to look presentable too.
To balance the center drop strings, I hanged the letters that spell SPRING on the "underside" of the wreath. The frame and letters were cut using the Slice Think Pink Designs. To add dimension and interest on the letters, I used Martha Stewart's Metallic Glass Microbeads.
Finally, I used nylon strings to hang the project to our dining room light fixture. This wreath would also look great hanging at the entry way or in a girl's bedroom.
