If you follow my blog at all you know that I love
using mists on my layouts and projects. I just love the possibilities and the
fact that you never quite know exactly what you are going to get. I also love
that it gives my layouts some added character and a bit of that unique factor.
One of my favorite things to do with mists is to use them with masks to create a custom background for my layout. In this case I cut three shapes using the Studio Essentials design card and the Slice Digital Designer. Once I had the images cut I chose a plain background and placed them on my layout in my misting box.
Then I used the Maya Road mists in Lemon and Pink
Grapefruit. First I sprayed the lemon color and then I lightly sprayed the pink
color over the top. After I was done misting I went ahead and removed the
shapes I had cut with the Slice Digital
Designer to reveal the white "negative" areas you see on my layout.
I used those areas as spots to house my embellishments and some captions -- giving my layout a more organized feel than if I had just randomly scattered those things around.
An added bonus to this technique is that I can use the shapes that I misted over on another layout or on some cards. Now I have three die cut shapes that are all misted and beautiful just waiting for my next project!!
Once you get a few Slice
design cards and a few different colors of mists added to your stash you
will realize that the sky is the limit when it comes to this technique! Have
fun and just remember that less is more when it comes to misting! I like to
start with light sprays (holding the mist further back from the paper) and then
layer the sprays until I get the look I want.
