Last August 2008 I found, through my mammogram, a small
suspicious spot. After the second mammogram they classified it as very suspicious
and likely cancerous. The biopsy confirmed it was cancer – but fortunately it
was very small and slow growing.
On October 16 I had a double Mastectomy and preparation for reconstruction. I was BRCA2 positive and my mother had died of Ovarian Cancer 13 years before. So, in December I had a complete hysterectomy to avoid Ovarian Cancer. In April and May I had three surgeries for reconstruction (had some complications, should have been just one).
It was a long, hard year, but now I am cancer free and I am on the road to better health. God was gracious through the surgeries and recoveries. Sometimes I was very discouraged, but He pulled me through. I am soooo grateful to be alive and to be a survivor. A principle that I try to remember and live by is this: I will praise Him (God) in all things - as in: if I am healed of cancer, I will praise Him, if I am not healed of cancer, I will praise Him. I am married and have two daughters (16, 10); well worth staying around for and fighting to stay alive!
