Making Memories Event at Paper Cottage

Using the Slice Alphabets

Each of the Making Memories design cards for the Slice has its own unique alphabet.  Whether you’re using Basic Shapes, Spellbound, Fa La La, Noteworthy or any other card, these alphas can be easily incorporated into any scrapbook project.

To show you exactly how to do this, we’ve created an instructional video on whyslice.com that should give you some ideas for your alphabets.  Take a look and you’ll see what we mean.

Holiday Count Down

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, which means the holiday season is officially upon us.

Jennifer Pebbles created this festive home decor project that will help you count down to the big day.

Jennifer used Making Memories number paper from the Fa La La collection. She painted an old wood container, cut out each number from the paper and attached it for each day. To decorate, she used Making Memories' puffy alpha stickers.

The Making Memories number paper is great for any advent calendar that you make this season. Don't forget to email us so we can see your creations.

 

What Season Is It? BUSY Season!

We are busy here at Making Memories. There is so much to do and time seems to fly by so quickly. We are working on some exciting things for 2009 (by the way, can you believe that 2009 will be here in a little over ONE month?).

Here is a quick snapshot into Making Memories' world today.

Slice Inspiration?

I knew as soon as I used the Slice die cut machine from Making Memories that I had to use it for an inspiration. Simply because that is exactly what it did - it inspired me. I used it for the first time for a "design off" project organized by Good Things Utah and Channel 4. We were given ladder type bookshelves to decorate by adding paint, embellishments, and photo inspiration. You can see an example of our shelf - a little girls dream - in the first picture. The second picture shows the darling layered flowers that were the focus of this project and also the inspiration of my "Grateful" page.

I love the airy, retro, feel to these unique flowers which are so easy to make with the Slice and Making Memories Paperie papers in Greenhouse and Mocha. I used flower shapes from the Noteworthy and Basics 2 design cards. Vary sizes between 3" and 2" as well as patterns, layer, and curl flower edges with a pencil. Finish off with a brad or button and that is all the embellishment you'll need. Since there were so many patterns going on in the paper flowers, I decided to use a plain background allowing the focus to be the picture and flowers.

So, this season, along with your slice of pumpkin pie - you might want to look into a different kind of a Slice... I know I will.

Designer Challenge Paperie

We’ve been showing you how to mix and match with the four Making Memories Paperie collection all month long, and today we’re showing you the last layout Wendy Anderson created for this design challenge.  Hopefully you’ve felt inspired!

Today’s Paperie layout is pretty simple.  Using the Mocha die-cut geometric paper, Wendy created a colorful effect by placing strips of Rouge, Poolside and Greenhouse paper beneath the die cut shapes.  She mounted her photos over Rouge and Greenhouse paper and added Poolside and Mocha trims.  After that was done, she pinned Greenhouse and Mocha blossoms together with a Greenhouse brad and added her signature Poolside epoxy clip complete with a Greenhouse trim for a final embellishment.  For a little variety, Wendy mixed alpha stickers from the Greenhouse, Poolside and Rouge lines.

Playing around with the Paperie lines is not only easy, it’s addicting.  Once you realize what you can make with all of the Mocha, Rouge, Poolside and Greenhouse products, you’ll never run out of ideas for your pages.

 

Making Easy Card with the Slice

The Slice is a great tool to use when creating cards. The holidays are just around the corner which means you will probably need card ideas soon.

Our Trip Overseas

Last month a few Making Memories' employees went to Hong Kong. We had a great time visiting with some of our associates over there and attending some product shows. We came back with lots of new ideas for Making Memories. We worked hard and tried A LOT of new entrees such as jellyfish, fish lips, fish head (and every fish variety you can possibly name), duck tongue, and more. :)

The most exciting part about this trip is our visit to the Slice factory. It was amazing to see the process of how 50+ parts come together to make the Slice. We were able to take part in the testing process as they were being made. It was a dream come true.

Thanksgiving Place Card Holders

Thanksgiving is just around the corner - next week! Laura created some easy Thanksgiving place card holders for your guests.

Laura used the Slice and the fall/back to school design card to create this place card setting. This project is easy to duplicate and great for this kids to get involved in.
