Photo Tip from Laura
Toddlers can be tricky to photograph sometimes. They seem to always be moving around, and not too keen on the idea of stopping to pose for photos! Add to it the mess that comes with toddlerhood, and you most likely will find your background filled with toys and clutter.
One of my favorite things to do lately, is to take my photos from up above them. It grabs their attention. When they're busy playing, they like to tune me out and ignore my pleas for them to look at the camera. But if I climb up on the table and circle right around with them, pointing the camera straight down, they're bound to look up and check out what I'm doing. And at the same time, it cuts down on the clutter in the background. In this photo of one of my daycare girlies, I avoided the mass amount of toys that were in the room around her. But I was still able to capture the things that are important to her, her blanket, her baby, and her sippy cup!
And another way this idea of shooting above has come in handy? When you have a toddler that is permanantly stuck on your lap! Another one of my daycare girlies is always wanting me to hold her. So sometimes it's hard to get photos of her. This photo was taken when Haley was sitting on my lap on the floor. I held my camera up above us as far as I could. And of course she looked, because she wanted to know what I was doing. Then I took the photo. This is what I managed to get, without even looking through the lens!
