Hi everyone! My name is Laura Vegas and I'm from Manteca, California. I'm beyond excited to have the opportunity to step in as a quest designer, and to bring you this weeks challenge. One of my all time favorite products from Making Memories is their metal rimmed tags. I have tons of them and use them all the time in my projects. So when they came out with their new Tag Maker, I knew I had to have it. I love to use the metal rims just as they are on my projects. They add such a fun dimensional look, and also give you a spot to "ground" your other embellishments.
Here's a layout I did for this challenge. I wanted to do a 4th of July layout since it's actually not a holiday I tend to scrapbook most years. I recently found the new Making Memories travel collection, and knew the pattern papers would be perfect for these pictures.
Here's how I created this layout:
- Create background of layout using brown pattern paper.
- Cut a large piece of the red pattern paper and a smaller piece of the blue pattern paper. Then adhere both to a sheet of white cardstock, leaving a thin border all the way around. Round the bottom corners.
- Adhere a scalloped strip of cardstock across where the red and blue pattern paper meet. A piece of ribbon would also be perfect here.
- Flatten various sizes of round metal rims in your tag maker and then adhere across your white border, mixing in a metal signage for your title. I ran the metal rims through my Zyron which made them easy to adhere to my page.
- Paint chipboard stars and chipboard photo corners using navy scrapbook colors paint. Adhere stars across border, "grounding" them on the tags.
- I also cut a small square metal rim in half and adhered on top of my chipboard photo corners.
- Adhere photos and journaling strips.
I also wanted to share a quick card I made using my scraps from this layout. This is one of my favorite things to do after completing a layout. I already have scraps of paper out and coordinating embellishments. So why not create a card or two to have on hand for easy giving. For this card I just pulled out a chipboard gameboard tag and a rub-on phrase. Everything else I already had out. I even painted a few extra stars while my brush was loaded up! And while this card would be perfect for the 4th of July holiday, it would also be great for a birthday card or a celebratory card.
So my challenge to you this week is to grab some metal rims and use them in a fun way on your layout. And if you're up to it, take the extra challenge and create a card using your scraps! Make sure to share your creation by uploading it to the Making Memories idea gallery. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
