Challenge with Cheeky

For this week’s designer challenge we are going to use the Cheeky product (of course)!  Here is an idea using the Cheeky program, glitter, and Jigsaw. 

 

To create this page I first cut two strips of pattern paper and taped them together. Then I used a large circle cutter to cut a circle in the middle of the strip.  I glued the strips with the circle opening to cardstock and stitched down the sides, so it would stay in place.  Once that was done, I cut a slightly smaller circle and glued it to the center of the circle opening. I added one photo and stitched it to one side of the page.  I didn’t have much room for additional photos, so I added a photo strip which is a great way to vertically add to a page.  I used the Slot Punching tool to thread some ribbon through.  I then painted and glittered up some chipboard and added to them to the page (I love the sparkle it adds). Meet one of our 'Cheeky' designers

Design is a passion we all share. But when it comes to style, we’re as diverse as can be, ranging from traditional to modern and clean to complex. Today, meet one of our designers, Christy Tomlinson as she takes us into the Cheeky side of her design style and life.

People that know me know I can be pretty crazy and fun—even with six kids. Part of that craziness converts over into my home decor as well.  I love mixing colors, patterns and textures throughout my home. I love finding cool art and accents that add unique touches to each room.  I have a very eclectic style and love mixing vintage, modern, and classic looks to create my own unique urban feel.

This carries over into my scrapbooking as well.  I love mixing textures and finding fun new color combos. I love using different mediums such as paints, stitching, and even fabric or textured papers on my layouts. I have always enjoyed mixing different patterns and color to create my own unique combinations on my pages. Sometimes I go for a more "clean" look, but usually always have to add a little bit of something out of the ordinary to make it me!

Info on layout:  I decided to mix it up a bit and use the Cheeky paper with the Vintage Hip paper (and added a little black to spice it up even more).  Cheeky is a very modern line where Vintage Hip is very, well, vintage—but I love how it worked so well together!  I carried that theme throughout the layout by mixing vintage flowers with Cheeky sleek chipboard flowers and painted letters with glittery stickers. My best friend, Liz, and I are so much like these two lines. She is very Vintage/classic and I am more modern when it comes to fashion, jewelry and even home décor. I love how this layout really represented us both by mixing it up to create the perfect page. --Christy

New Challenge, New Tool

Are you ready to try a great new tool?  You’ve got to get the new Slot Punching Tool – I got one last week and I’ve already used it tons!  Here’s a quick page I put together using the Slot Punch in several different ways. 

 

First, I used the large tip to turn my sticker into a tag for the title.  Next, I used the small tip to punch slots for weaving the new textured tape and ribbon.  And then I used the curved tip to create my scalloped border.  The best thing about this tool (besides how versatile it is) is how easy it is to use – the tips just pop into the end of the instant setter and all you have to do is position it and press down – easy easy easy!  (Oh, and if you think I’m kidding about the Drama Queen business, you should have seen her reaction when she saw this page lying on the table! Gotta love her!)

A Day In The Life Of...

Is anyone out there interested in a typical day of a working scrapbooker?  If not, you’d better stop reading now!! ;o)

I created this page about a VERY typical day in my life: driving my daughter back and forth to school, cutting many precious years off my life by dealing with computer/printer issues (wish that part wasn’t so typical!!), snacking, exercise, and sleep. Whew, I’m bored just writing about it!! lol  But—that’s why I used lots of color on the page—to make it look a lot more exciting that it sounds.

To create this page, I cut a piece of chipboard to 9” x’9” and painted the background with lime green (ok, ‘honeydew’) paint. I then added pink rub-on alphabet letters and stamped red dots and flowers. The red dots are the flower center stamps in the flower stamp set!!!  They are great for just adding random circles on a page. I stamped them using cranberry paint.

Here’s a photo of the page as I was creating that part of it (I snapped this picture with my cell phone, so it’s not very high res).

Next, I dumped a ton of blue (‘lagoon’) scrapbook colors paint all over my page and then turned my page so the drip marks would run down and around my title. I thought it looked pretty cool. Then I used a dry paintbrush and ‘flicked’ extra blue paint over my title. I printed my journaling on white textured cardstock and cut it into strips. Next I added a small strip of pink ‘cheeky’ paper along the bottom border. I backed one photo in the same paper and placed it at the top of the page, then added some more random photos about my day along the bottom. Finally, I added a cheeky clip to the top, some stickers to the title, and a few rub-ons along the bottom.

And there you have it!  More than you probably ever wanted to know about a day in my life—but I do think the peek-a-boo title is a fun technique to share. :o)

Home Decor

Do you ever wonder what happens to the book projects that our designers create, once the books are complete?  Well we want to show you.  After a book is complete, the projects are sent back to our designers so they can put the projects back into their homes.

This is one of my projects I did for the Home Décor book. I decorated a chipboard box with photos because I wanted a place to store all of my smaller albums. I have quite a few 6x6", 4x6", and smaller sized albums. So, this box holds them all in one place. The mini album I made to go with it is one where I can continually add advice for Daisy as she grows! I have it sitting on the dresser in her room at the moment. The quote says ‘A mother hears what a child does not say’ and it is a Jewish proverb that I found on the internet. - Erin Terrell

 

I keep this organizer right on my computer table in my scrapbook room. I use it to keep recent photos that I have printed, assignment information, and any notes or ideas that i have jotted down recently. I also stick new products in there so that I can see them and remember to use them! It is great to have everything organized and right at my fingertips and at the same time it is personalized and decorative. I am always a fan of things that can do double duty!! -Maggie
